The author was away from North Carolina for 18 years, from 1960 to 1978. During that time, he was finishing college,4 years in the Army and 9 years with IBM. the author met a cousin, Barry, for lunch, who mentioned a cousin he had metrecently. The author told him that he hadn't seen many of the Spicer cousins for most of his life. As they talked, they came up with the idea of having a family reunion with their parents and their siblings. The first Spicer reunion was in 1978 and most of the cousins were in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the event and wanted to do it again the next year. After that, the author's parents took me to see his Dad's oldest sister, Izetta Craven. She told them that Bernard Spicer was writing a book about the Spicers of Wilkes County, NC. The author invited Bernard to come to the 2nd reunion. Bernard had finished his genealogy book and sold a book to most of those in attendance. The author was even more interested in the Spicer family, the more he wanted to continue their history. Over the years, they had 42 consecutive Spicer Family reunions. It was only stopped by the COVID virus. There was a lull in reunions, the Author's retirement and a memory book he wrote for his three grandsons. Since then, he was encouraged to write three other books, which are on Amazon: "What Was I Thinking?", "Wow! Time Does Fly!" and a religious book, "The Day of the Lord". It has now taken the Author over three years to collect the extended Spicer families, originally researched by Bernard Spicer and Janie Griffith. In addition to the local families, he wanted to included their history. This book begins in England, comes to Virginia, then comes to North Carolina and eventually moves to most states. A second book is about the Spicers, who moved from North Carolina to Kentucky in the 1800s. The Author hopes you will find your ancestors and interest from this book. Bernard Spicer wrote that someone else should extend the genealogy, which he worked on, This author has now written two books and over 1,300 pages. "The Spicers" Book One from North Caolina to Kentucky precedes Book Two for those who migrated from NC to Kentucky, originally written by Janie Griffith and her mother. These books will give many family members an opportunity to find and know their extended families and what ever happened to them. Most of the states and several countries house a Spicer. Book Two will be released within a few months:from North Caroline to Kentucky, to West Virginia, to Ohio, to Indiana, to Arkansas and many other states. The Author hopes you will enjoy finding your ancestors and finding out where they migrated and what they accomplished. Read more
